About the role

As the Industry Research Assistant, you will undertake research activities in line with the University’s research strategy. Under the collaboration between RMIT and DSTG, you will be responsible for the setting up and operation of static and dynamic test machines (e.g. drop tower and single-axis servo-hydraulic test machine) to test steel and weld test coupons. In this role, you will also:

  • Operate equipment to detect and record the response of the test coupons
  • Pre- and post-test analysis of test coupons using scientific instruments and techniques
  • Supporting the chief investigator and the industrial supervisor in the preparation of the reports
  • Preparation of any resulting journal and conference papers or presentations based on the finding of these investigations

About you

As the successful candidate you will have:

  • Evidence of research output including publications, conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field
  • Ability to generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government
  • Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills.

 

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or having completed an honours degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Materials Engineering or the equivalent experience in structures and materials testing.
