School of Health and Biomedical Sciences

The School of Health and Biomedical Sciences comprises three Academic areas (Allied Health, Applied Health, and Biomedical Sciences).  Primarily based at the RMIT Bundoora campus, we undertake teaching and research across ten disciplines: Chinese Medicine, Chiropractic, Exercise Science, Human Biosciences, Laboratory Medicine, Medical Radiations, Nursing, Osteopathy, Pharmacy and Psychology.  Many of our programs include Work Integrated Learning as an intrinsic part of student learning, both through placements in partner industries and through the University’s student led Health Sciences Clinic located at Bundoora.

Discipline of Medical Radiations

The discipline of Medical Radiations contributes to teaching and research in the fields of Medical Imaging, Radiation Therapy and Nuclear Medicine, in the School of Health and Biomedical Sciences. The undergraduate program enables graduates to be eligible for registration to practice as Medical Imaging Technologists, Radiation Therapists or Nuclear Medicine Technologists in Australia under AHPRA.

The program is structured to integrate foundation sciences, clinical sciences, and clinical skills to produce highly capable graduates that can practice as healthcare professionals with skills relevant to their stream. There is also a strong focus on Work Integrated Learning to ensure students are exposed to real-life clinical scenarios from the time they begin their studies within the discipline. Staff and students in the discipline have the opportunity to work on state-of-the-art equipment.

The discipline promotes strong, interdisciplinary collaboration within Applied Health and contributes to the mission and vision of the School of Health and Biomedical Sciences, the STEM College and RMIT University. It also promotes strong links with industry partners and regularly engages with these and other stakeholders.

About You and the Role

As a Lecturer in Medical Imaging or Lecturer in Radiation Therapy, you will be responsible in leading the advancement of teaching in Radiation Therapy education including initiating program improvements, improving academic standards, leading assessment design and conduct as well as contributing actively in research through building a successful research team delivering high impact publications and obtaining competitive research grants. In this role, you will deliver best of class teaching, research and/or scholarship activities within the medical radiations and the wider healthcare setting. You will be expected to contribute significantly to the governance and collegial life inside and outside of the University.

As a Senior Lecturer in Medical Imaging, you will independently contribute to the efficient delivery of Medical Imagining teaching within Medical Radiations and the wider healthcare setting through forward-thinking, sustainable and engaging course materials and high-quality curriculum for students undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Medical Radiations. Additionally, you will be expected to perform and deliver high-impact research/scholarly activities both independently and as a member of the team, including publishing research outcomes as lead or co-author in highly ranked journals, conferences and forums, submitting and actively identifying appropriate research grants & funding, involvement in collaborative projects and supervision of higher degree by research students. Lastly, you will maintain and develop relationships with relevant departments of the university and other institutions and connect actively with industry, commerce and government as well as participate in the on-going process improvement within this discipline and across the School of Health and Biomedical Sciences through your contribution in program management of a large award program or a number of smaller award programs.

Qualifications

Mandatory: PhD or equivalent in relevant field.

  • Registration with AHPRA (or eligible for registration with AHRRA) as a Medical Imaging Technologist or Radiation Therapist (Lecturer)
  • Registration with AHPRA (or eligible for registration with AHRRA)  as a Medical Imaging Technologist (Senior Lecturer)

Desirable:

  • For appointment at Lecturer Level B, you will have proven teaching and research track record as well as experience in preparing high-quality curriculum and course materials at tertiary level for undergraduate and postgraduate medical radiation programs.
  • For appointment at Senior Lecturer Level C, you will have a minimum of ten years of full-time experience in conducting and producing high quality research output & mentoring academic staff while ensuring impactful research and excellent teaching outcomes.
  • A substantial record of research outputs in high quality outputs such as journals, forums, conferences and/or books will be highly regarded.

Preferred: Completion of the Essentials in Tertiary Teaching Practice program or equivalent (if the appointed candidate does not meet this requirement at time of appointment, they will be supported to complete this as a requirement to fulfil their probation).

Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
