War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Services are comprised of 24 hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Aged Care Assessment Team, Day Rehabilitation (iREAP), Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, 7 day a week day centre, 24 hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services. It is set within beautiful tranquil grounds and is a well-supported team environment.

The purpose of this role is to provide high quality clinical psychology services, in accordance with AHPRA, NSW Health and War Memorial Hospital (WMH) policies and clinical practices, to inpatient clients (and outpatient and community clients as required), demonstrating advanced clinical reasoning in the sub-acute aged care rehabilitation environment.

This includes assessment and rehabilitation with a wide-range of age-related disorders of cognition and behaviour associated with multi-factorial geriatric syndromes, including dementia, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, acute confusion, frontal syndromes and other neurological conditions.

The role delivers individual assessment and treatment for mood, anxiety and adjustment difficulties that are having an effect on a patient’s/client’s rehabilitation functioning, within an evidenced-based psychological framework such as cognitive behavioural therapy to facilitate adaptation to disability and assist management of anxiety, depression and/or other mental health issues.

This position is part time permanent role for 4 days per week. Days can be flexible.

Selection Criteria: 

  • Full Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) with Endorsement in Clinical Psychology (or eligibility to progress towards same), along with a minimum two-year full-time APAC-accredited postgraduate Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology
  • Experience in the assessment and treatment of psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression and adjustment issues in older adults using evidence-based therapies.
  • Knowledge of a wide-range of age-related disorders of cognition, emotion and behaviour
  • Experience in the management of behavioural difficulties seen in patients with and without cognitive impairment and/or emotional issues.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in effective implementation of cognitive rehabilitation or psychological treatment programs in a group format.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively within a team, including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
  • Ability to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support other health professionals in providing service excellence, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other clinical or neuropsychology staff or students, as soon as eligible.
  • Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
