About You and the role:

As the Research Fellow you will support the research aims of devising new approaches for handling complex information needs and interpreting the intentions of users in session-based search or complex answer retrieval contexts. You will have research experience in information retrieval in addition to an interest in one or more of the following: Lab-based and crowdsourcing-based user studies, machine learning, or natural language processing. You will have both research and software development skills and will work with the supervisors on the development and evaluation of algorithms to support effective and efficient large-scale search engines.

You will have:

  • Prior research experience in information retrieval as evidenced by one or more publications in the following venues: SIGIR, WSDM, CIKM, WWW, SIGKDD, NIPS, ACL, NAACL, COLING, CHIIR, ALENEX, DCC, ESA, SPIRE, ECIR, TOIS, TKDE, IPM, IRJ.
  • Previous experience with software development for large projects and manipulating large data collections.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.

Qualifications

This position requires a PhD in a relevant field.

Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
