Criminology is a rapidly growing area at Swinburne University of Technology within the Bachelor of Arts offered by the Department of Social Sciences. It also forms a component of the newly launched Bachelor of Criminal Justice and Criminology administered by the School of Law. Our program has a strong critical and technological focus with increasing engagement with industry and strengthening vocational skills and capabilities amongst graduates.
This position aims to build and develop the existing research strengths of violence and youth and/or gendered violence with an orientation to collaborative social science research.
We are looking for a leader within the field of Criminology to contribute to this vision. As an Associate Professor in Criminology you will play a pivotal role contributing to curriculum development, teaching, and research. You will directly impact the overall student experience, teaching quality, and the quality of student outcomes. An expert within your field, you will bring a reputation for innovation, high quality teaching, program leadership, research excellence, and research mentorship.

To be successful in the role, you will have:
- A PhD in Criminology or associated relevant field
- Demonstrated ability to manage curriculum, and high-quality teaching in Criminology or a related area with outstanding student outcomes
- A strong record of high-quality research as evidenced by publications and/or Non-Traditional Research Outcomes (NTROs)
- Demonstrated ability to attract external research income through competitive grants and/or industry collaboration.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to liaise with a wide variety of stakeholders, work within a consultative, team environment, including an ability to work effectively with colleagues external to the department and relevant professions in industry and government.
