About the role

Permanent, full time position located in our Sunshine Office. This position provides education and vocation expertise and support to children and young people in LWB Child Youth & Family programs and it aims to achieve education outcomes equitable with their age peers.

This role will primarily focus on a small group of young people across 3 to 4 residential homes in the West Melbourne and Geelong area.

The Education Consultant works within the child’s care team providing a collaborative service to support and enhance education and vocation outcomes for children and young people in residential care.  The Education Consultant will work directly with young people and the teams that support them including Schools, Training Providers, Youth Workers, Therapeutic Specialists and Program Managers in the areas of school engagement, education pathways and individual learning plans and learning supports. 

The Education Consultant position is part of and is professionally supported by the Life Without Barriers National Education Unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to improve the quality of learning outcomes for children and young people in out of home care including residential care
  • Provide expert advice, program development, training and support in purposeful programming that enhances engagement in learning, educational and vocational options
  • Lead and provide training and support in the development, implementation, and review of education support plans
  • Work collaboratively with young people to support agency and access to learning and educational opportunities
  • Follow and engrain evidence-based practice and trauma informed models such as CARE and TCI into all processes, systems, and activities

 Skills & Experience

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in Education (Vit registration)
  • Hold an unrestricted Vic driverÂ’s licence
  • Experience in developing, providing and accessing education and pre-vocational training options for vulnerable children and young people
  • Demonstrated experience working within a team providing services to children and young people with high and complex needs in a school, community or youth setting
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders including schools, youth justice, government agencies, family members and community services providers
  • Demonstrated experience being flexible and adapting education and training resources to meet the needs of children and young people with high and complex needs
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the learning needs and teaching methods required for young people with disrupted and/or incomplete schooling experience
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check.
