About the opportunity

This is a permanent part-time opportunity working 21 hours week (minimum) until June 2022 with likely extension

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and caring Aboriginal Family Connect worker to join Uniting’s Children and Families Family Connect Team based in Turner ACT.
This is a permanent part time position where you will be working flexible hours including occasionally on weekends.

This is an entry level position for a candidate who is keen to benefit from Uniting support to achieve qualifications, and workplace experience, to enable career development.

 

As a Family Connect worker you will be responsible for the direct care, supervision and safety of children in Out of Home Care during family visits with their birth families and significant others. Many of the children and parents you will meet have likely experienced trauma. Experience working with children who have experienced trauma is desirable but not essential.
We invite applicants who want to commit to supporting families working towards restoration of their children from out-of-home care, to apply.

 


 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, monitor and participate in quality face to face family visits between children/ young people and their birth families.
  • Assist children and young people in Out of Home Care to maintain links and develop relationships with their family of origin through positive family visit experiences.
  • Provide transport for children/young people and birth families to facilitate family visits and respite care.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance to the programs policies and procedures. 
  • Prepare a written report for ACT Child and Youth Protection Service after each visit.

 

About You

  • This is an identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.  All applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent . Aboriginality is a genuine qualification authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT 1977
  • Some experience in the direct care of children and young people. 
  • Willing to undertake study in the field of direct service delivery in the community sector.
  • Current drivers licence and willingness to transport families and children
  • Hold a current ACT Working with Vulnerable People card
