About the role

This is a permanent part-time opportunity working across the following days and times

  • Monday and Tuesday 3pm – 11:30pm
  • Wednesday – Thursday 7am – 3:30pm

Foyer Central is Uniting’s bold social impact investment program in partnership with St George Community Housing Social venture Australia.  The program provides young people with a lived experience in Out of Home Care (OOHC), independent housing with a supporting team of Youth Development Coaches.

Based in Chippendale in Sydney's CBD, this role is responsible for working with young people aged 18-22 years who have a lived experience of out of home care.  Working 4 days/week on a rotating roster, including morning, afternoon, and weekend shifts may be required.

You will provide supervision and support to young people, providing opportunities to enhance their everyday living activities, education and employment opportunities, health and wellbeing with a focus on transitioning to independent living over a 2 year period.

The Youth Development Coach will be part of a highly skilled team who share a commitment to working collaboratively to ensure the Foyer Central framework of Advantage Thinking is embedded within the program.

  • Play a key operational role to provide links between the young people and community to be part of a young person’s journey to independence, including Aboriginal community Organisations.

About you:

  • This is an identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.  All applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Aboriginality is a genuine qualification authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT 1977
  • Provide evidence of Aboriginal identity, and be able to demonstrate ability to work effectively with Aboriginal peoples and communities
  • Knowledge of multiple service systems and the support that young people leaving OOHC require to transition to independence.
  • Passion for working with young people and a sound knowledge of the issues faced by young people.
  • WWCC, Police Check, NSW Drivers Licence with the ability to work flexible hours.
  • Proven experience working in a residential youth care environment would be highly regarded
  • Practice within a coaching framework is desirable
