About The Role

Role Location: 833 Collins Street Docklands, however, other locations may be considered for the right candidate.

Financial Crime Threat Management (FCTM) strives to protect our business and communities against financial crime threats. FCTM utilise customer data and intelligence to detect, investigate and escalate potentially suspicious activity such as money laundering, financing of terrorism, and activity involving sanctioned parties. FCTM specialists work within the Financial Crime Portfolio to support businesses across the group in complying with financial crime regulatory obligations.

You will be responsible for assessing and coordinating financial crime filtering solutions to enhance detection capabilities and quality of alerts generated, with a focus on solutions for AML Transaction Monitoring and Customer Risk Rating / Monitoring. You will work closely with other teams in Financial Crime to identify changes to improve detection coverage and design solutions to achieve these improvements based on inputs including typology reports, intelligence findings and risk assessments.

Development and implementation of new solutions, and utilising advanced data techniques is another responsibility of this role to improve the quality of outputs and timeliness of identification of potentially suspicious activity. The role will also be responsible for documenting the linkage between risk, coverage and detection and enhancing solutions and processes to monitor the operations of the filters to confirm that they are operating as required.

Your key priorities and responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain documentation to demonstrate linkage between Financial Crime risks, coverage requirements and detection solutions.
  • Develop and maintain solutions and documentation in accordance with defined processes and Model Validation requirements.
  • Monitor implementation of delivery against expected service level agreements and turnaround times.
  • Review inputs (risk assessments, typology reports, intelligence findings, operational outcomes and findings, audit reports, KRIs and management information) to identify and prioritise improvements to financial crime detection systems, with specific focus on AML Transaction Monitoring and Customer Risk scoring / monitoring solutions.
  • Enhance reporting and insights into operation of the Financial Crime detection solutions to improve performance of the filters.
  • Design, develop and implement solutions to improve the efficacy of AML detection and customer risk rating solutions.
  • Identify new/improved methods of detection to address coverage requirements, utilising advanced data techniques and provide input into longer term strategy for improving coverage and detection of Financial Crime.
  • Implement solutions to improve quality of output (investigations) from filtering solutions, reducing operational losses to increase operational resilience and reduce risk.
  • Help achieve ongoing compliance to avoid regulatory penalties.
  • Maintain and build relationships within the Financial Crime Portfolio, feature and platform delivery squads for AML platforms and operations stakeholders.
  • Actively assist staff in developing new skills / capabilities, cross-skilling in List-Based Detection and Filter Validation, demonstrating a growth mindset.
  • Participate in succession planning for FCTM and maintain succession and growth plans for Direct Reports.
  • Influence – contribute to design and development of strategic future ready solutions and encourage testing and adoption of new methods of detection
  • Assist in external / internal audits and reviews, maintenance of solution documentation and extend ongoing Program Validation artefacts and with execution of Intelligence and Operational Capability developed solutions.

About You

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Experience in Financial Crime/ Regulatory/ Compliance and or financial systems, with experience dealing with Auditors and Regulators.  
  • Deep understanding and awareness of statistical and data concepts experience in application in a financial crime context.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and succinct manner to non-technical persons.    
  • Appropriate university degree in Quantitative discipline supported by practical application of knowledge in industry (Economics/Statistics/ Information Technology)
  • Able to manage priorities and conflicting issues in a professional manner, including strong influencing skills          
  • Advanced data management / manipulation skills – Excel, SQL, SAS, Python, Machine Learning and experience in technology and process governance requirements in deploying technology solutions.
