About the role

The Youth Rent Choice Caseworker will be located in Campbelltown and employed on a full time 12-month contract. 

Within a team environment, you will provide information, referral, "drop in support", crisis services, and strengths-based casework that is driven by the needs of young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness in the Macarthur & Wollondilly area.  The aim of your work is to help young people and families receive referral and support to resolve risk factors so that in some cases they remained living with their families.  The work should be offered with an approach that demonstrates warmth and empathy, initiative, collaboration, reflective practice, clear and respectful communication and availability and responsiveness to crisis and client issues.

About Youth Rent Choice

Youth Rent Choice is available for young people 16-24 and is a form of Private Rental Assistance (PRA) that supports households to access safe and affordable housing in the private rental market. It provides a time limited private rental subsidy for up to three years and facilitates access to support services to build capacity for independent living.


As the Caseworker you will:

Support the young person through their journey on the subsidy, supporting private rental applications, gaining employment and education, networking and building relationships with education and employment services, communicating with DCJ Housing on a frequent basis about the client and their progress. Attending the Partner Facilitation Group (PFG) with other services to assess Youth Rent Choice nominations.

Ongoing support of the client for the duration of the subsidy which includes but not limited too ongoing case management, referral and assessment.

 

About you:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences and demonstrated relevant work experience with young people
  • Multidisciplinary casework experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting on homeless young people and families
  • Collaborative team player
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Committed to compliance - legal, government and policy
  • Good record keeping
