Design Researcher

We have an exciting opportunity available to join a newly established Design Squad in the Deposits Tribe. The Deposits Tribe are responsible for the end-to-end management of ANZ’s transaction and savings customers and products. Our mission is to help our customers achieve their goals by providing the right solutions when it comes to how they want to save, use and manage their money. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Managing and guiding the research activities and processes
  • Managing the measurement stream of work
  • Co-running experiments to test hypotheses with customers and staff
  • Building an understanding of customer and staff insights and test results within the Squads
  • Deeply understanding, envisioning and solving for target customer and business impacts; collaborating with other Designers/Researchers, Product Owners, Change, Data, Product, Support, Technology, Channels, Legal, Risk and Marketing to ensure frictionless solutions
  • Supporting the Service Design and Strategic Design Streams of work
  • Supporting Innovation and process improvement capabilities in squads
  • Supporting the iterative implementation of our future state solutions and processes in collaboration with Experience Designers and Design Researchers
  • Helping embed a customer and capability strategy into the program
  • Helping develop, manage and embed a desirable, viable and feasible solutions roadmap into the program

Design at ANZ. This role be within the Design Squad and will be an active member of the Tribe’s design and research team, supporting the growth of design research capability across the Tribe, and working with other Designers to define and deliver the Deposits Design strategy. You’ll play an important role in shaping the culture, community and practice of design at ANZ, passionately backed by our CEO Shayne Elliott

What will your day look like?

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • As a member of the Design Squad, you will be collaborating closely other designers and researchers plus data analysts, change managers, scrum master and product managers to plan and execute research activities
  • Identifying customer and staff needs, problems and insights
  • Contributing to idea generation with compelling, insight-based design challenges and best practice inspiration
  • Run experiments to test and identify potential solutions
  • Measuring the success of solution implementation and feed learnings back into the continuous improvement program
  • Managing stakeholder relationships
  • Delivering compelling narratives and impactful communication
  • Support workshop design and facilitation to enable effective information gathering, co-creation and solutioning activities – particularly for complex and nuanced segments (e.g. vulnerable customers)
  • Collaborating closely with other squads to transform the way we work

 What will be in your toolkit?

  • You are a passionate Design Researcher with solid experience in helping teams generate and evaluate solutions
  • You have 5+ years of experience as a researcher
  • You are well versed in digital research tools such as Lookback and have experience running research with non-digital prototypes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop collaborative relationships and communicate effectively with others.
  • You are curious by nature and have an absolute passion for the customer (and you’re nice)
  • You have experience with both generative and evaluative research, prototyping and testing. 
  • You thrive working in a very fast paced agile environment with short timelines and multiple deadlines.
  • You will be risk savvy and monitor and implement research governance and risk processes in line with best practice and ANZ policy.
  • Good project management skills and demonstrated ability to achieve the project brief requirements, within agreed budget and timeframes
  • Experience working in Agile environments
    • Strong interpersonal skills, including experience with leading, coaching and mentoring a team to deliver customer focused solutions
    • Good understanding of the Banking system and products, service, channels
  • Passionate about creating exceptional customer experiences
  • Ability to explore customer needs in a data-driven way, support innovative solutions, test the outcomes, and help iterate
    • Ability to challenge yourself and the business on the value that will be delivered to customers
