About the role

Manage a Residential Care Home with a wide range of responsibilities for managing the home including supervision and rostering of staff, managing program budgets and activities and establishment of a safe homelike environment.

This role works with other key Care Team members to lead the implementation of the CARE model and ensure the home provides a therapeutic environment which actively engages children and young people in activities and routines to support them to learn life skills including emotional regulation, problem solving and social competencies. The role is primarily based within the home environment.

Working with the CARE model you will strive to enhance the lives of young people in our Residential out of home care program incorporating a therapeutic, trauma informed approach. Please note: There will be an on call component to this role with on call allowance.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead the team of Therapeutic Residential Carers to ensure a consistent approach to the day to day care of children placed in ITRC placements with LWB.
  • Provide role modelling and on the job support and supervision to Therapeutic Residential Carers.
  • Implement and model the skills and attributes of the CARE model and TCI skills in supporting children and young people to regulate their emotions and develop skills
  • Maintain a supportive and safe working environment.
  • Roster Management.
  • Provide up to date information to Manager in relation to the care, support and wellbeing of children and young people
  • Apply the principles of the CARE therapeutic framework to all interactions with children and young people.
  • Actively participate in and lead care team meetings, reflective practice and supervision.
  • Support the involvement of family and facilitate contact and the development /maintenance of positive family relationships with children and young people, to suit individual needs, including supporting restoration where this is safe and possible.
  • Respond therapeutically to pain based behaviours such as aggression, withdrawal and self-injury
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and young people who have experienced trauma and disadvantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in forming and maintaining professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people
  • Demonstrated experience in developing positive developmental relationships that build trust with children and young people through visible interest and active engagement, and to place the best interests of the child at the centre of all interactions.
  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership and management

Essential

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention, Diploma of Welfare or equivalent qualifications in community services. Staff must commit to undertake an LWB sponsored program to become accredited via an RPL process or undertake studies to achieve a Certificate IV or similar within 18 months.
  • Commitment to complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Training and be assessed as TCI competent within the probationary period.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • A current drivers licence (an unrestricted drivers licence is preferred).
  • Demonstrated understanding of child development and the ability to support the learning of a broad range of life skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of family/kinship connections to children and young people in placement
  • Demonstrated peer support, problem solving and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrate high levels of interpersonal skills, resilience, personal reflection, self awareness and self-regulation
