About the role:

Our cutting-edge Distribution Center (DC) Automation Technology Team delivers world-class solutions and services through market-leading automation technology, platforms, and cloud environments across the entire Coles group.  

Within this role you will manage and lead the delivery of various projects across our Distribution Centre (DC) Automation Team, working within our wider supply chain platform division. As part of our ever-growing business, we are embarking on offering superior service to our customers through exciting new technology and project solutions. Thereby, ensuring an evolving and satisfying retail experience to our customers.

With ongoing changes and trends across the technological world, Coles is embarking on new and exciting projects across the business involving cloud-based technology and automation; enabling us to move into a new era of retail and supply chain technology solutions.

What you’ll be doing:

As the Practice Lead, you will drive the delivery of various modern and revolutionary projects across Coles’ Distribution Centre (DC) Automation Engineering Team. You will apply your expertise as a Principal Engineer, utilising your broader knowledge and proficiencies to consult and guide key business unites by introducing new tools, processes and knowhow to the organisation.  

You will plan, analyse, design, implement, test, and maintain software systems based on modern technologies to advance Coles’ engineering capabilities.This role will require a high level of technical expertise leading the end-to-end development life cycle and project strategy by driving next–gen software and product solutions across our Distribution Centre (DC) Automation Division.

You will be the catalyst in driving and delivering complex software and product designs by drawing on your experience, utilising a variety of skill sets, technology tools and leadership capabilities, driving Coles’ Distribution Centre (DC) Automation solutions and services to the future of retailing.

You’ll also:

• Automate the deployment of applications, system configuration, and security settings using Azure Devops on Azure Cloud and On-Prem.
• Work with platform teams to design and implement pipelines using enterprise Devops tools and frameworks.
• Manage and lead project specific software engineering squads and offering ongoing technical support and guidance through the end-to-end development life cycle.   
• Bring experience in the development and management of infrastructure as code (IAC) to build full-stack solutions.
• Proficiency in designing end-to-end digital solutions including architectural designs that adhere to our standards and deliver value to our end-users.
• Create, influence, and communicate innovative technology roadmaps by drawing in new technology skills and toolsets.
• Have expert understanding of the software development lifecycle, Agile development practices and enterprise architecture principles.

This role requires commercial experience across a large-scale system-critical business environment. As the Principal Engineer you will drive new trends and technology tools sets and offer exceptional technical leadership to modernise our Supply Chain platform, delivering next-gen product solutions and services. We are seeking a talented Principal Engineer with exhaustive experience across modern cloud and software engineering practices including containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) across Azure.

You will bring advanced knowledge across a variety of open-source tools and technologies that will support the broader engineering business in delivering cutting-edge solutions and products.

You’ll also need:

• Commercial experience leading a team of engineers or developers, managing development processes, and demonstrated project delivery leadership.
• Experience in supporting digital technology teams across a large and complex enterprises setting.
• Demonstrated Cloud-Native development and architecture in Azure or AWS.
• Demonstrated experience across various programming languages C#, Java, Golang (favourable).
• Commercial experience across various data technologies; RDBMS (SQL Server), NoSQL (CosmosDB), event streaming (Kafka/EventHub) or equivalent (favourable).
• Demonstrated experience in OOP & FP designs.
• Proficient in designing and building services and APIs.
• Knowledge of security practices.
