Senior Technical Specialist

About the role:

Our Merchandise Technology Team delivers world-class solutions and services through market-leading automation technology, platforms, and cloud environments.  

Within this role you will provide strategic direction and leadership in engineering, development, and continuous delivery, ensuring solutions are performance compliant for Coles’ merchandise systems.

This role will see you engage in a vital position across performance testing, performance related issues, and ensuring developed code meets performance requirements.

What you’ll be doing:

As part of the Software Engineering Team, which is part of the wider Merchandise Technology Team, you will lead and produce technical designs and system specifications for new and existing applications, and develop system code that implements the design, meeting requirements and relevant standards.

The Senior Technical Specialist’s focus will be the performance on new and current technical solutions.

You’ll also:

• Complete application architectural designs and consultancy services on all aspects of Merchandise Systems.
• Produce technical designs and system specifications for new and existing applications, and develop system code that implements the design, meeting requirements and relevant standards.
• Provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to Engineers and Developers as required, especially in application performance and security
• Provide analytical and engineering support, including problem resolution, to the running and enhancement of existing production systems.
• Capacity planning and analysis across systems within various functional areas.

As the Senior Technical Specialist of the Merch Engineering Division, you will lead all aspects the performance across various system critical applications and services.

This role requires commercial experience across a large-scale system-critical business environment. As the Senior Technical Specialist, you will enable new trends and designs, offering exceptional innovative solutions. We are seeking a hands-on Senior Technical Specialist with experience across a similar complex and system critical business landscape.

You’ll also need:

• Strong Development or Engineering background.
• Commercial experience across performance tuning is essential.
• Previous architectural experience delivering large transformational projects.
• Strong experience in the creation and support of Oracle Databases and Applications, Cloud technologies and Kubernetes.
• Strong PL/SQL and data analysis skills.
• Strong skills in ensuring developed code are performance compliant.
• Strong experience supporting business applications within a retail environment & gathering business requirement.
• Experience and skills in secure coding practices will be highly desirable
• Experience and skills in Java and JavaScript application architecture will be highly advantageous
