About the Role
The Aerostructures Innovation Research Hub (AIR Hub) is a world-class, collaboration between Australian aerospace industry leaders and research partners. Led by Swinburne University of Technology, AIR Hub will drive transformation of the aerospace sector in Australia by reinforcing the Australia’s pre-eminent position in advanced composites manufacturing for civil aerospace projects and accelerate development of composites manufacturing for integrated structures and airframes in eVTOL urban passenger, cargo and aeromedical air vehicles.

Reporting to the AIR Hub Director, you will be responsible for leading an interdisciplinary team focused on applied research projects with industry partners to ensure the successful delivery of projects and the future growth of the AIR Hub. As the Project Leader, you will contribute to building the AIR Hub’s reputation as a recognised international centre of aerospace innovation and application, and develop excellent relationships across the University and with industry partners to bring together an expert team made up of the University investigators, the core AIR Hub delivery team, the students, research services and external partners, clients and stakeholders.

The Project Leader, AIR Hub (UAS & AAM) must leverage previous experience in advanced development and research and development project management and demonstrate past success, to support the maturation and growth of the AIR Hub, building a positive culture and best practice processes. You will contribute to the design and implementation of management plans, build operational processes, support the development of a project management framework and manage resources to achieve optimal outcomes.

About You
  • Extensive and broad Project Management experience with proven success on a number of technical development and build projects
  • Experience in aerostructures, composite structures, systems development and qualification, relevant to airframes in eVTOL urban passenger, cargo and/or aeromedical air vehicles
  • Flexible and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations
  • Organised with a natural inclination for planning, strategy and tactics
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and influencing skills including the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders and staff from different levels within the organisation.

Qualifications
  • A postgraduate degree level qualification in a relevant discipline with subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Relevant Project Management qualification(s)

Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor, lead and co-ordinate the activities of the project team, ensuring they have the appropriate capabilities, motivation, connections and resources to deliver exceptional results.
  • Contribute to the development of resources to engage with external partners, industry, and the wider community to raise awareness of AIR Hub.
  • Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, providing them with access to information required to effectively support project delivery.
  • Identify and implement training activities for AIR Hub project staff and partners.
  • Seek and identify further project and funding opportunities for AIR Hub growth and continuity.
  • Design and implement project plans, policies and procedures aligning to the Hub strategies, for the effective project management of the AIR Hub.
  • Identify, analyse and prepare risk mitigation tactics.
  • Manage the administration of specific project financial budgets, scope and schedule that ensure an effective balance between delivery and impact
  • Identify and establish internal and external networks to capitalise on business opportunities that yield beneficial outcomes for all stakeholders.
  • Build trust and integrity, by consistently applying ethical actions, transparent communications and commitments with internal and external stakeholders.
