About the Role
We are seeking a passionate Mental Health Nurse to join Swinburne’s Health Services team and provide holistic care in accordance with the core values of Swinburne University of Technology Health & Wellbeing area. Reporting to the Associate Director Health & Wellbeing Services, you will deliver an advanced level of triage and consultation in a cross-cultural Health & Wellbeing environment and will provide positive health experiences for staff and students at Swinburne University.

As the Mental Health Nurse, you will consult with clients with mental health issues and aim to provide improved access to mental health services and improve outcomes in terms of recovery and relapse prevention.

The dominant patient population is young adults and is culturally diverse, and the delivery of these services will support the University’s commitment to the retention of students and the successful completion of their studies. The incumbent is required to be flexible in hours to cover practice working hours, which are between 08:00am to 6:00pm.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
  • Proven clinical experience in patient assessment, management and recent acute inpatient and or community experience.
  • Ability to deal with challenging behaviours and ability to manage conflict whilst maintain professional conduct and a resolution focus.
  • Excellent triage skills.
  • High level communication, written and verbal, with demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills with clients, their families and all health care professionals.
  • Proficiency in recording patient care details electronically.

Qualifications
  • Registration with the Nursing and midwifery board of Australian (AHPRA)
  • Competent clinical skills in mental health
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Victorian and National Legislation governing area of practice (e.g. Mental Health Act, Vic 2014)
  • Basic first Aid and CPR certificate
