About the Role

As a Disability Support Worker, you will be providing person-centred active support to people living with challenging behaviours in our Supported Independent Living (SIL) programs in Newcastle. Our Supported Independent Living (SIL) program assists people living with disabilities to thrive independently in shared housing or on their own. This includes assisting our clients with reaching their goals and thriving independently in their daily living activities.

Due to the nature of these services, you will be required a range of short and long-hour shifts. Please note that 24/7 hour shift work is required in our SIL program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support clients with daily personal care such as bathing, shaving and toileting
  • Provide mobility assistance by lifting, transferring and hoisting clients
  • Support clients to achieve their best possible mental health
  • Adaptability to work with different individuals including complex and challenging behaviours 
  • Help clients reach their goals through meaningful activities of their choice
  • Track and document the changing needs of clients through thorough record-keeping
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, their families and your team
  • Advocate for client choice and control in a way that is safe and compliant

Skills & Experience

  • An unrestricted New South Wales driver’s licence
  • Qualifications in Mental Health or a related field, Certificate IV in Mental Health would be well regarded
  • Committed to work flexible work hours across the week, including public holidays
  • Demonstrated ability to use basic technology and software on a mobile and desktop
  • A current First Aid Certificate, which includes the course HLTAID003 or HLTAID011

Successful candidates will be required to clear all state-based probity checks; including but not limited to a National Criminal History Record Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check.

Please note: To be considered for and appointed to a position at Life Without Barriers, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a minimum of two (2) doses or hold a valid medical exemption certificate, in accordance with Life Without Barriers Employee COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
