About the Role
As the Research Associate, you will have the opportunity to work on an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project, “Precision cosmic expansion in the era of gravitational-wave astronomy”, led by Swinburne University of Technology. This exciting project aims to address the current disagreement in the size of the cosmic expansion rate between measurements from local galaxy indicators and predictions from the early Universe.
The focus of the position is to optimize expansion measurements from the standard sirens discovered by gravitational-wave astronomy, by accurate modelling of the cosmic velocity field using modelling of cosmological large-scale structure. Related, independent research is also encouraged.
You will perform fundamental research in the Centre for Astrophysics & Supercomputing, in the area connecting cosmological large-scale structure with gravitational-wave astrophysics and will work closely with collaborators at Monash University, the University of Queensland, and with collaborators within the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Experience in cosmological physics or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated track record of refereed research publications.
- Demonstratable knowledge of statistical techniques and computational methods.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Prior research experience in large-scale structure modelling or analysis will be highly regarded.
Qualifications
- A PhD in physics/astrophysics, with research interests in cosmological physics or a closely related field
