War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Services are comprised of 24 hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Aged Care Assessment Team, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, 7 day a week day centre, 24 hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services. It is set within beautiful tranquil grounds and is a well-supported team environment.

The Environmental/Security Services (ESS) Team Leader directly engages in the delivery of effective and efficient cleaning, linen, waste and basic security services across the campus of War Memorial Hospital (WMH).  This position is the key support role for the WMH Hotel Services Manager in maintaining and reviewing Environmental and Security systems and practices on a day to day basis. This Team Leader is well supported in being the designated leave relief coverage for periods of leave of the WMH Hotel Services Manager.

WMH engages Health and Security Assistants with Class 1A Security Licences to undertake in hours and after hours site cleaning and security services across a 7 day week rotating roster. The security responsibilities encompass alarm response, lockdown procedures, operation of access control systems, CCTV and situation assessment.

The cleaning role is responsible for meeting the hospital campus cleaning, linen and waste requirements over the 24hr period. This includes clinical and non-clinical areas alongside basic hospital portering duties. The ESS Team Leader has some direct patient contact as well as with various members of the healthcare team including nursing, allied health and support staff, visitors and contractors to the site. Orientation and training into the role is facilitated by the WMH Hotel Services Manager.

This position is a Full Time Permanent role with a 24/7 rotating roster which includes weekend, evening and night shifts.

Selection Criteria: 

1. Demonstrated experience as a Health and Security Assistant or Hospital Assistant with experience or interest in a leading hand or staff supervision role

2. Possession of or willingness to work towards a current New South Wales Class 1A Security Licence and First Aid Certificate in accordance with the Security Industry Act Demonstrated knowledge and experience in practical hospital cleaning, healthcare infection control standards and processes

3. Demonstrated knowledge, practical experience or willingness to learn staff rostering, general principles of security and clinical supplies ordering processes

4. Sound oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with patients, visitors  and other staff across all levels in the Hospital and good basic computer skills relevant to role and mandatory training requirements

5. Demonstrated experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment with minimal supervision and the ability to organise and prioritise work demands within required timeframes

6.Awareness of Work Health Safety principles and maintaining quality processes relevant to cleaning and security
