About the Role
As the Senior Technical Officer, you will provide specialised technical support in all aspects of Waterjet Cutting, and in the manufacture & fabrication of complex mechanical devices, providing workshop support to the various disciplines and research Centre’s within the Schools.
Reporting to the Fabrication Workshop Manager, you will predominantly perform duties related to Waterjet Cutting services and its workshop, however will also be required to perform duties related to manufacturing and fabrication in other parts of the Fabrication Workshop, contributing to the day-to-day management and maintenance of other nominated workshops, laboratories & facilities.
The position is broad in scope and requires a high degree of initiative and self-management to deal with the wide range of functions and tasks.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Experience in the manufacture of mechanical components & equipment from basic drawings supplied by staff, students and researchers.
- Skilled in the use of a wide range of conventional machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and surface grinders.
- Skilled in the use of Arc, MIG, TIG and gas welding techniques for metal fabrication.
- Proven knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety policies, procedures and compliance.
- Experience in the operation of CNC machines and/or Waterjet Cutter and 3D CAD/CAM modelling software systems such as SOLIDWORKS is preferred however training on Waterjet Cutting will be provided.
Qualifications
- An appropriate trade qualification in Fitting and Machining and/or Toolmaking, or Metal Machinist or an allied field with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
- Licence to drive and operate a forklift (or willing to undertake training for a licence).
- A Mechanical Engineering degree with subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in technical or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training is preferred.
