Expected to open in the first half of 2023, this integrated resort will be a game-changer – creating a vibrant new tourism playground within the CBD and putting Brisbane on the global map. 

Sitting on the Brisbane River’s edge, opposite South Bank, this development’s stunning mix of heritage and contemporary architecture will maximise Brisbane’s yearly 300+ days of sunshine, with dining, entertainment and recreational options to suit every taste and budget.

This development is delivered by Destination Brisbane Consortium – a joint venture between lead partner, The Star Entertainment Group, and its Hong-Kong based partners, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium.

We have unique and exciting position available within our Procurement team for a seasoned Category Manager who is comfortable working autonomously. If you are a driven and proactive individual who has a passion for developing collaborative relationships, identifying and implementing new opportunities and working efficiently, then this could be the role for you.

As a Category Manager you will be an influential and resilient self-starter capable of working autonomously yet collaboratively, driving efficiencies and delivering outcomes. You will have extensive experience in leading the end-to-end procurement lifecycle and developing robust category plans and sourcing strategies to achieve successful outcomes. You will be proficient in category management, contract negotiation, market and competitor analysis and data analytics.

This is a 12-month max term contract initially through the lead up to the opening of the Queens Wharf Brisbane development due to open in 2023.

About your role:

  • Develop and implement robust category plans and sourcing strategies based on market research, intel and stakeholder requirements to drive efficiencies and achieve value for money. Monitor spend and develop and implement strategies to minimise uncontrolled spend
  • Identify, develop and lead end-to-end sourcing activities and approach to market to deliver efficiencies and value for money for the business while mitigating risks
  • Develop and execute negotiation strategies and lead negotiations on complex, high impact and challenging supply arrangements, driving efficiencies and better value for money
  • Provide market and competitor analysis and insights, including key implications and recommendations
  • Identify and manage commercial, contractual, operational and ethical risks to minimise any negative impact to category objectives while encouraging opportunity and innovation
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience handling a diverse range of categories including corporate, hospitality, facilities and professional services
  • Advanced influencing and negotiation skills, commercial awareness and business acumen
  • Team player capable of working collaboratively to deliver results for multiple stakeholders with competing demands
  • Exceptional communication skills, a go-getter attitude and strategic mindset
  • Strong background in procurement, sourcing and category management with a comfortable knowledge of consumer and competition law
  • Experience working in complex environments, managing competing demands and with multiple stakeholders
  • Proven track record to influence people for continuous improvement and value creation initiatives

You will also play a lead role partnering with the project team, ensuring that all preopening work for the property is seamless allowing the group to open on time, on budget and achieve the business and departmental objectives ensuring operations are conducted in accordance with the highest standards.

To be successful in this role you will have

A seasoned learning and development professional (ideally with experience in coaching for professional development and leadership uplifting and capability coaching) that has a passion for growth, developing talent and creating a guest centred culture. You will demonstrate focus and drive, by creating a team environment where you hold yourself and others accountable for achieving positive outcomes for the department and business.

  • Experience in a Senior leadership role
  • Professional development coaching experience
  • Certificate IV Training & Assessment
  •  Understanding of Casino rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and resourcing, and controlling labour costs and operating expenses
