About the role

Due to growth in the region, we have an opportunity for a House Manager to join our team in Devonport supporting the Northwest of Tasmania. You will oversee the day-to-day operations of emergency placement and ensure that we are creating a safe and culturally appropriate environment for children and young people.

This is a permanent full-time position, where you will lead and manage a team of residential support workers to support these young people in emergency placement and short-term accommodation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build professional, trusting relationships with children and young people through visible interest and active engagement.
  • Ensure the home is a place that is emotionally and physically safe, nurturing, and appropriately engaging and stimulating, to foster growth and resilience.
  • Manage, support and provide reflective supervision and team meetings to a team of residential workers, and lead staff to work as a team in the best interests of children and young people.
  • Support staff to apply the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention system (TCI) to prevent, de-escalate and respond to crisis incidents involving children and young people.
  • Undertake rostering of residential workers ensuring that risks are managed and staffing levels reflect the needs of young people
  • Coordinate the intake and transition of new children and young people into the home and the exit of children and young people to permanent homes or step-down services.
  • Ensure the CIRTS database is up to date with all client information.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or similar
  • Experience working with children and young people who have experienced trauma and disadvantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading a team
  • Current Unrestricted Australian Drivers Licence.
  • First Aid and CPR Certificates (or willingness to obtain if successful).
  • Completed Safe Environments training or willingness to complete before commencement
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including strong interpersonal skills, use of Microsoft Office packages. 

 All positions within Life Without Barriers will be required to undergo probity checks including criminal record checks and working with children check (where relevant to the position).
