About the Role 
As General Counsel you will serves as the chief legal advisor to the University.  You will provide top-notch legal guidance on a wide range of issues impacting our institution's strategy and operations. You will lead the in-house legal team, advise senior leaders, and oversee all legal matters to ensure compliance with laws and regulations while safeguarding our interests and managing risks.  This role will be crucial in supporting the University's strategic objectives by delivering high-quality legal advice and sourcing external legal expertise when needed.

About You  
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 
  • Significant experience gained in reputable private legal practice or as in-house General Counsel including corporate and commercial work.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate relationships with government, regulatory authorities, stakeholders and other parties having dealings with the University.
  • Experience working with regulators.
  • Understanding of the corporate governance and regulatory requirements of public bodies in the context of the University.
  • Ability to lead an experienced and highly qualified team covering a range of portfolios, and to work without supervision or direction, to show initiative, to manage uncertainty and to anticipate and meet the needs of senior leadership.

Qualifications
•    Authorised to engage in legal practice as a corporate legal practitioner in Victoria.
