About the Role 
Swinburne University of Technology has an ambitious goal of growth in research excellence, impact and eminence, as set out in its Research Strategy to 2025. The Research Grants and Contracts team in Research Services is integral to this program of work. A specialist unit in the team, Major Research Initiatives, provides effective support for the development and management of strategic, complex and high value research funding opportunities – including ARC Centres of Excellence, ARC Industrial Transformation Research Program, Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs), CRC-Projects, NHMRC Centres of Research Excellence and other State or Federal Government funding calls, as well as non-competitive, mission-focused, industry-instigated research and enterprise initiatives such as joint research centres and consortia.

The Senior Officer, Major Research Awards at Swinburne University of Technology will be a member of the Major Research Initiatives team and will play a critical role in providing post-award research administration and project management support for major research awards. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating the establishment of multi-institutional agreements, advising on post-award budget revisions and management, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements, coordinating variations, transfers, financial acquittals, and project closure processes.

Additionally, the Senior Officer will be reviewing and monitoring risks, escalating issues as necessary, and will actively engage in resolving complex matters. Reporting to the Manager, Major Research Awards, the incumbent will collaborate closely with other members of the Major Research Initiatives group, the Research Grants and Contracts team, and various teams across Swinburne Research and the University to facilitate the seamless establishment and effective management of major research awards.

About You  
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 
  • Experience in managing complex programs and/or awards, preferably in the higher education environment, including ability to interpret agreements, ability to adhere to reporting and compliance requirements within set timeframes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to draft correspondence, reports, guidelines and information guides, and convey complex information or informed advice with a high level of clarity
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective collaborations and positive relationships with a variety of key strategic stakeholders including external funding bodies, researchers, research leaders, organisations, and other service providers
  • Developed planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, anticipate requirements and work to set deadlines

Qualifications
  • A tertiary degree with at least four years subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training
