About the role

This is a permanent full-time role, located in our Leederville office. This position provides education expertise and support to children and young people in LWB Child Youth & Family programs, and it aims to achieve education outcomes equitable with their age peers.  This role, in collaboration with the National Education team, will lead the implementation of the education strategy in CYF in the designated state.

The Education Consultant provides collaborative support and service to schools, care teams, foster carers and support workers in the areas of school engagement, education pathways and individual learning plans and learning supports. 

The role will be based in our Leederville office and will include some flexibility to work from home. The incumbent will be required to undertake travel within WA to various work locations to fulfil the responsibilities of the position including; Goldfields, Geraldton and Southwest.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders (internal and external) to advocate for and improve the quality of learning outcomes for children and young people in out of home care and ensure the implementation of priorities that encourage inclusive practices, relational pedagogy and positive behaviour support.
  • In collaboration with the National Education team and CYF leadership lead the LWB education strategy in the designated state, providing expert advice and direction on best practice models of education support across the cohort groups – Pre-school, School age and Transition from school.
  • Lead and provide training and support in key education areas as identified in the LWB Education strategy’s education and learning aspirations for Children and Young People in Our Care.
  • Work in collaboration with the National Education team develop and support national education initiatives.
  • Ensure fidelity to evidence based practice and models - CARE and TCI - in all processes, systems and activities
  • Provide advice, guidance and support to staff and carers working in out of home care, including those that provide intensive behaviour support and/or flexible learning opportunities

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in Education, Special Education and/or related fields (e.g. Speech-language Pathology, Psychology, Social Work)
  • Hold an unrestricted driver’s licence
  • Experience in developing, providing and accessing education and pre-vocational training options for vulnerable children and young people
  • Demonstrated experience working within a team providing services to children and young people with high and complex needs in a school, community or youth setting
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders including schools, youth justice, government agencies, family members and community services providers
  • Demonstrated experience in inclusive education adapting education and training resources to meet the needs of children and young people
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the learning needs and teaching methods required for young people with disrupted and/or incomplete schooling experience
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Excellent written communication skills for the creation of reports, correspondence and other material
  • Strong verbal communication, interpersonal skills and presentation ability in dealing with the public and other stakeholder organisations
  • Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and to deliver high quality outcomes within agreed timeframes

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, DCP395 Child Protection Clearance and Working with Children Check.
