About the opportunity

HIPPY (Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngster) is a free, two year, home-based early childhood learning program that empowers parents and carers to be their child’s first teacher. Families that live in the  catchment Bidwill  area start HIPPY the year before school and continue during their first year of school.

HIPPY tutors are parents or carers involved in HIPPY, either currently or in the past

HIPPY tutors are employed by Uniting for two years to provide peer support and deliver HIPPY to families through practicing activities with them. Home tutors visit parents in their home, over the phone, via zoom or a community location to practice HIPPY activities and assist in running fortnightly meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organise and meet with between 10-15 HIPPY families on a weekly basis to role-play and deliver HIPPY materials in the home, over the phone, via zoom meetings or a group meeting.
  • Prepare weekly materials and equipment in readiness for home visits, phone calls, zoom meetings and group meetings.
  • Support parents to provide regular feedback regarding their participation in all aspects of the program including home visits, phone calls, zoom meetings and parent groups.
  • Develop relationships with families that will support the development of their skills and confidence.
  • Refer HIPPY families to the HIPPY Coordinator if they need additional support or assistance.
  • Attend and participate in weekly training, regular staff development and supervision.
