  • Full-time, 3 -year fixed-term contract positions based at RMIT City campus but may be required to work and/or be based at another campus of the University and/or partner institutes (including overseas)
  • Play a pivotal role in delivering teaching/research activities related to Software Engineering and/or Programming as well as contributing to the research and development in Digital Health
  • Opportunities for candidates with experiences teaching topics in Digital Health and Software Engineering, including the fundamentals of Software Engineering, i.e., SE Modelling and SE Process, as well as more specialized topics, i.e., Software Testing and Software Patterns
  • Report directly to the Professor Zahir Tari, Associate Dean (Cloud, Systems & Security)
  • Remuneration at Academic Level A ($68,983 - $ 93,569) or Academic Level B ($98,495 - $116,965) + 17% superannuation

About You and the Role

You will be responsible for:

  • Designing and delivering independent teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level including delivery of lectures, and programs through forward-thinking, sustainable and engaging course materials; preparing, conducting and moderating assessment; implementing improvements informed by course evaluation activities and student feedback;  
  • Actively engage and promote the programs through developing networks, maintaining memberships, links and partnerships with academic members, industry and professional communities; as well as participation in the on-going process improvement within STEM College and across Information Technology division, in the School of Computing Technologies;
  • Perform high-quality and efficient research/scholarly activities both independently and as a member of the team, including publishing research outcomes as lead or co-author in highly ranked journals, conferences and forums, submitting and actively identifying appropriate research grants & funding, involvement in collaborative projects and supervision of higher degree by research students, honours and WIL (Work Integrated Learning) projects;
  • Contribute to the research and innovation in Digital Health, including but not restricted to Health Analytics, Biomedical or Health Informatics, or other applications of technology to Health-related problems;
  • Involvement in varied administrative duties based on the level of appointment related to the goals of courses and small award programs of the organisational unit.

Qualifications

Mandatory: PhD or equivalent research doctorates related to Software Engineering/Computing Technologies.

Desirable:

  • Proven experience in preparing & delivering effective and innovative lectures, tutorials, and presentations with a focus on Digital Health and Software Engineering and innovative teaching technologies and digital capabilities; experience with online delivery of course material or blended learning for students undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs will be highly regarded;
  • For applicants applying for ECDF Lecturer to teach topics in Digital Health as well as topics in Software Engineering, you will have working knowledge and/or experience in carrying out teaching activities within undergraduate, and/or  postgraduate programs including Fundamentals, e.g., SE Modelling and SE Process, as well as more Specialised topics, e.g., Software Testing and Software Patterns;
  • Experience supervising higher degree by research candidates;
  • A substantial record of academic and published research outputs in high quality journals & articles in and contributing to the development of new research initiatives, external research funding submissions and strong linkage to industry and government will be considered; in particularly external engagement with relevant partners, in the Digital Health-related industry or Health-related academic disciplines.

Preferred: Completion of the Essentials in Tertiary Teaching Practice program or equivalent (if the appointed candidate does not meet this requirement at time of appointment, they will be supported to complete this as a requirement to fulfil their probation).

In order to be eligible for this ECDF role you will have performed casual teaching work for an Australian University during the past three years and have not been employed on a continuing basis at an Australian University. Applicants who have previously been employed on a fixed-term basis at an Australian University are eligible for this position, however the requirement remains to also have performed casual teaching work as per the above parameters

Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
