About the Role

An exciting opportunity is now available for a Behaviour Support Practitioner to join the Positive Behaviour Support Team based in Cairns.
 
The position is required to provide high quality Positive Behaviour Support and clinical services to clients in our program as part of a professional multi-disciplinary team with support from a Senior Practitioner.
  
Please Note: State-wide travel may be required for this role.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical knowledge and expertise to support clients in a range of Life Without Barriers programs.
  • Complete assessment (including data collation and analysis) of risk and behaviours of concern.
  • Develop, deliver and monitor interventions and strategies around behaviours exhibited by people with a disability, and who may have multiple diagnoses which impact their behaviour.
  • Provide Behaviour Support services that are timely, efficient and effective, ensuring they meet the goals identified by the client and their families/carers and are provided within available resources.
  • Work with the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Commission requirements, the NDIA Terms of Business and any State Based Restricted Practice Authorisation requirements.
  • Provide training and support to staff, teachers, parents etc. in interventions and strategies developed for NDIA participants including behaviour support plans, therapeutic interventions, restricted practices, risk and safety plans.
  • Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders e.g. Client, family members, support staff, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Psychiatrists, Teachers and Day activity providers.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Must meet suitability to deliver Positive Behaviour Support according to the NDIS Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of behaviour support services to children, adolescents, and/or adults with disabilities displaying complex support needs (e.g. mental health diagnosis, health needs, complex trauma, involvement with the criminal justice system).
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience working in positive behaviour support approaches including the use of authorised Restrictive Practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience working in a billable hours environment such as the NDIS.
  • Experience working in a culturally sensitive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and/or a willingness to work and train utilising culturally appropriate approaches.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to provide a service based on a client’s NDIS Plan, goals and funding allocation.
  • Current Driver Licence.

  
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
