About the role
RMIT is reshaping its approach to research commercialisation and expanding its IP and Commercialisation team and we are seeking a dynamic and partner-focussed IP and commercialisation professional to join the team. You will be responsible for the actions and systems necessary to translate the University's research into commercial outcomes and protect the University's IP.. The role includes working across the team and our research community to identify research to be patented, opportunities for licensing, provide expert advice, instruction and coaching to researchers on all IP and commercialisation matters and develop commercialisation strategies. You will also build and maintain strong internal and external networks with Research Colleges and Schools, IP specialists, business development and commercialisation managers. As a member of the broader Research Partnerships and Translation Unit you will work across the research transfer value chain with the Research Partnerships and Major Research Initiatives teams, as well as other key stakeholders in the R&I Portfolio to support the identification, commercial development and transfer of new research outcomes into the society to enable impact.
About you
We are looking for someone with a high-level understanding and extensive experience in research, technology innovation, translation, intellectual property and commercialisation. You will have a proven track record in IP protection and negotiating commercial and legal arrangements for commercialisation. As a proactive professional you will have high level interpersonal communication and influencing skills, including the ability to consult with senior executives, external bodies, negotiate agreed outcomes within a collaborative environment in a complex organisation will be imperative to your success in this position. In addition, you will have strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills including the ability to develop innovative strategies that lead to improved outcomes in the delivery of research translation.
Qualifications
Mandatory: Relevant degree and/or experience, preferably as a Commercialisation Manager for a University or research organisation.
Desirable: A PhD or post graduate qualification in a science or engineering field ideally with experience in one or more of the following medical devices, advanced materials and chemistry\biochemistry.
Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
